Heavy particle excitation of the fine-structure transitions within the 2s2p^2^4P multiplet in boron-like ions
Abstract
Cross-sections are presented for proton-impact excitation of the fine-structure transitions within the 2s2p^2 ^4P multiplet in Cii, Niii and Oiv. These have been calculated using the close-coupled impact parameter method modified to include the 2p^3 ^4S^o states by means of a polarization potential. Excitation rate coefficients have been derived from the cross-sections for a wide range of temperatures.
