The Puchezh-Katunki Astrobleme: A Structural Model of a Giant Impact Crater
Abstract
The available geological, geophysical, mineralogical, and geochemical data are analyzed and gen- eralized with the aim of constructing a structural model of the Puchezh-Katunki astrobleme, one of the largest impact craters on the Earth. Evaluated parameters characterize the astrobleme and its principal morphological elements such as the outer ring terrace, ring depression, and central dome. The distribution mode of koptogenic rocks and limnic crater deposits is studied, and the principal features of impact and postimpact transformations in target rocks are described. The results obtained provide a reliable geological framework for simulating the dynamics of complex impact cratering.
