Design of wind-independent deposition gauges
Abstract
The collection efficiencies of conventional dust deposition gauges are, in general, very poor, particularly for small particles. In this paper a new design is proposed in which external lips are located around a deposition gauge to control the air flow pattern and, hence, enhance the collection efficiency. Extensive computational studies of two-dimensional systems reveal that much sought-after requirement of collection efficiency, which is both wind- and particle-independent, may be effectively achieved by incorporating outward extended lips around the gauge opening with an integral gap.
