Fluorescent K i 7699 Angstrom Emission from Circumstellar Shells of Red Giants: Evidence for Highly Asymmetric Winds
Abstract
Potassium atoms in the circumstellar shells of R Aql, V Hya, g Her, and R Leo are detected through fluorescent emission at 7699 A at angular distances of up to several seconds of arc from the star. As traced by the 7699 A emission, the shells are highly asymmetric.
