LEST Mini-Workshop: Entrance windows of solar telescopes. Summary and conclusions.
Abstract
The main conclusion that can be drawn from the workshop is that the LEST entrance window is no longer a critical factor of the telescope design. There is a lot of confidence that the window is feasible, and as a result the discussions have concentrated on special issues and have gone into considerable detail. The presentations given at the workshop can be categorized into four broad topics: manufacture of the window, control of the window surface reflectivity, thermal control of the window, and polarization effects. The author will address each of the topics in this sequence.
