Solar plasma energisation: basic concepts.
Abstract
The author describes the basic properties of the solar atmosphere and outlines the mechanisms which may operate to produce the solar wind, to heat the corona and to drive the transient events which we observe, such as flares and coronal mass ejections. The aim of this review is to provide a useful perspective for the solar physicist as well as an introduction for those not familiar with the Sun.
