Spectral and luminescence properties of rare earth garnets with chromium
Abstract
Recent theoretical and experimental research concerned with the spectral and luminescence characteristics of garnet crystal activated by chromium, neodymium, erbium, holmium, and thulium ions are summarized, and the output characteristics of lasers based on these crystals are examined. The discussion then centers on the interaction of trivalent ions of rare earth metals in the excited state and the effect of the interaction on laser characteristics. Attention is also given to the characteristics of pump emission absorption by optically dense active media and induced absorption in chromium-containing scandium garnet crystals.
