Electric fields in the midlatitude ionosphere associated with southward reversal of the Bz component of the IMF
Abstract
Variations of F-layer heights were measured to investigate the magnitude of the electric field in the midlatitude ionosphere as well as its latitudinal dependence and the time sector of its predominant penetration. The possibility of determining the sign of the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field from ground-based data is demonstrated.
