The Swedish-ESO submillimeter telescope (SEST).
Abstract
The Swedish-ESO 15 m diameter, submillimetre wavelength telescope on La Silla is now complete. Here we describe the salient features of the telescope and the first instrumentation as well as results from commissioning tests. The telescope reflector surface has been set within 65 microns of the ideal paraboloid and the aperture efficiency at 100 GHz is about 60%. A pointing accuracy of approximately 3" rms has been measured in both azimuth and elevation. Results of the first astronomical measurements are presented.
