Mass loss mechanisms for cool stars
Abstract
The discussion of mass loss mechanisms for cool stars is based upon the understanding of thermally driven stellar winds. First the author discusses Parker's thermally driven solar wind model, and considers the effects of energy addition to the flow in the form of heat and momentum. On the basis of this general discussion he examines a few particular mechanisms to see if they can play a role in driving massive winds from cool giants and supergiants.
