The Giotto optical probe experiment
Abstract
The Halley Optical Probe Experiment (HOPE) was designed to provide in-situ photopolarimetric data on the dust cloud and the gaseous atmosphere in Halley/s coma. The probe concept, instrumentation, and possibilities for cross-correlation between the HOPE results and those of other space and ground-based experiments are presented. The instrument was turned on successfully on 13 September 1985.
