A study of the characteristics of cosmic-ray hadrons at Mt. Kambala
Abstract
The characteristics of cosmic-ray hadrons are studied using emulsion chambers installed at Mt. Kambala, 5500 m above sea level. At Mt. Kambala, the power index of the differential energy spectrum is 2.98 + or - 0.49 in the energy region from 2 to 20 TeV. The vertical flux of hadrons with Eh greater than 3 TeV is (400 + or - 50)/year per sq m per sr; their attenuation length in air is (104 + or - 16) g/sq cm; the mean interaction lengths of hadrons and mesons in Pb are (15.3 + or - 3.0) cm and (18.6 + or - 4.7) cm, respectively; and the meson-to-nucleon ratio in cosmic-ray hadrons is 1.0 + or - 0.4.
