A quasi-CW high-power optical Raman lithium iodate laser
Abstract
Stimulated Raman scattering at 556.46 and 582.99 nm with a mean power in mode-locked operation of 50 and 7 mW, respectively, has been obtained by placing a lithium iodate crystal into the resonator of a continuously pumped YAG:Nd(3+) laser. A mean power of 320 mW in one direction has been achieved at 582.99 nm in the Q-switched mode. Also, weak emission at 509.78 and 612.33 nm has been recorded experimentally. The conditions producing the phenomena observed in the present study are discussed; the observed emission wavelengths are interpreted as the stimulated Raman scattering of the main emission with simultaneous second harmonic generation and of the sum frequencies in the lithium iodate crystal.
