Progress report on helium abundance determination.
Abstract
Intermediate results from a programme to determine the helium abundance of the solar convection zone are presented. The method uses the influence of helium ionization on the local sound speed, which can be gauged from inversions of solar oscillation frequencies. The resolution of the principal diagnostic function by the data justifies optimism for an abundance determination in a future step.
