Stellar Winds in Cool Giants and Supergiants
Abstract
We propose to study the properties of stellar winds in cool giants and supergiants using both archive and new high-dispersion, long-wavelength spectra. We aim to investigate the dependence of wind velocity and mass loss rate as a function of spectral type and luminosity, concentrating particularly on the K giants. We will use as primary diagnostic tools, the blue-shifted absorption features seen in the Mg II h and k lines of stars in this region of the H-R Diagram.
