Nonlinear nonradial adiabatic stellar oscillations: numerical resultsfor many-mode couplings.
Abstract
The adiabatic nonlinear coupling of many linear radial modes has been extended to nonradial modes. A variational principle for fluid mechanics has been applied to obtain a Hamiltonian formalism. The numerical results presented in the paper show that the nonradial modes can cause a much more irregular motion than the radial modes. In the case of the Sun, radial and nonradial 5-minute modes are coupled, and they have been computed using a 'real' solar model.
