Variation of the Mesh of the Granular Network Along the Solar Cycle
Abstract
Using high resolution photographs of the granular field in the center of the disk obtained since 1966 at the Pic-du-Midi Observatory, it is shown, either by measuring the center-to-center distances or by counting granules, that a substantial change in these parameters does occur along the undecennal cycle, the number of granules per 10×10 arc seconds being around 35 at minimum and 45 at maximum. Automatic counting of features displaying closed isophotal curves is under way.
