Chromospheric and coronal indicators of stellar magnetic structure
Abstract
The use of observations of the H and K lines of Ca II, UV emission lines, and soft X-rays to characterize the magnetic structure of F, G, and K stars is discussed, and representative data are summarized. The solar data are reviewed, and stellar data are presented in graphs. Close relations between the soft-X-ray flux, the transition-region flux, and the chromospheric or H+K flux are identified and interpreted, and a need for simultaneous magnetographic observations is indicated.
