Magnetic heating in the sun.
Abstract
The observational evidence for magnetic heating in the solar corona is presented. The possible ways of investigating theoretically the nature of the heating processes are critically discussed. Merits and disadvantages of the basic mechanisms so far proposed are reviewed. Finally, a preliminary application of the magnetic heating concept to stellar coronae is presented.
