Problems in the Interpretation of Cluster Membership Probabilities
Abstract
Summary. The degree to which the combination of proper motions of various accuracies and deleting from the vector point diagram influences computed cluster membership probabilities using the maximum likelihood technique as employed by Sanders (1971) is investigated. Results obtained from the recently published proper motion data for M 11 suggest that both of these effects can have a significant influence on the calculated membership probabilities. Key words: galactic clusters membership probabilities
