Beryllium in Alpha Centauri A and constraints on beryllium formation.
Abstract
The equivalent width of the Be II 313.1-nm line in Alpha Cen A (G2 V) is determined to be 1.25 times the solar value, leading to a Be/H abundance ratio of 2.5 by 10 to the -11th power. The age of Alpha Cen A is estimated to 8 billion years. This, together with observed Be in the old stars Delta Eri (K0 IV) and Mu Her A (G5 IV), indicates that beryllium existed in significant amounts relatively early in the history of the Galaxy.
