X-ray spectra of Cassiopeia A and Tycho's supernova observed with Ariel-5.
Abstract
The proportional counter on Ariel-5 has observed the X-ray spectra of Cas A and Tycho's supernova from 1.5 to 18 keV and 13 keV, respectively. Both spectra are well fitted by two-component thermal models. The higher-temperature component can in each case account for an emission feature due to Fe XXV, which is observed at about 6.7 keV. Estimates of the iron abundance for each source are presented on the basis of these models.
