Solar Magneto-Atmospheric Waves. 11. a Model for Running Penumbral Waves
Abstract
A simple two4ayer model of a sunspot penumbra is used to study the mode of running penumbral waves. Exact solutions of the linearized wave equation, not limited to the small-wavelength approximation, are employed in each layer. The lowest "plus" eigenmode of magneto-atmospheric waves in the model penumbra is in good agreement with observations of running penumbral waves. The results indicate that running penumbral waves should be observable in a photo spheric pectral sline.
