Fluorescence lines excited by the Mg II resonance lines (II).
Abstract
The influence of spectral resolution on the full width at the base of the emission core of the Mg II k line (2795.5 A) is determined by comparing solar observations with convolved profiles, and a width-magnitude relation is derived. The relation is used to predict the behavior of fluorescence lines excited by Mg II emission cores in Ke, Me, and N stars.
