The remnants of the supernovae of AD 185 and AD 393
Abstract
Possible candidates are considered for the remnants of the supernovae observed in A.D. 185 and 393. Ways to identify remnants with supernovae are briefly outlined, early Chinese records of the investigated supernovae are reviewed, four candidates are examined for the remnant of A.D. 185, and seven are examined for the remnant of A.D. 393. The available evidence is shown to suggest that G 315.4-2.3 is the remnant of A.D. 185 and that G 348.5+0.1, G 348.7+0.3, or G 350.0-1.8 may be the remnant of A.D. 393.
