Resonance line transfer with partial redistribution. VI. The Ca II K-line in solar-type stars.
Abstract
Using model atmospheres for solar-type stars based on scaled temperature distributions, we discuss the effects of partial frequency redistribution on the Ca ii K-line profiles. We show that the partial redistribution calculations lead to a significantly lower intensity at K1 than given by calculations based on the assumption of complete redistribution. This implies that fits to observed fluxes with complete redistribution calculations could tend to underestimate systematically the value of the temperature at the chromospheric temperature minimum.
