Solar five-minute oscillations as a resonance phenomenon.
Abstract
The response of a nonisothermal gravitational atmosphere to an oscillatory perturbation is studied in the case of a parabolic temperature profile. The exact analytical solution is then applied to a model solar atmosphere. An interpretation of the 5-minute oscillations as free oscillations of the atmosphere as a whole is proposed.
