Radio and optical data on a complete sample of radio faint galaxies.
Abstract
Radio sources from the B2 catalogue have been identified with galaxies in the 'Catalogue of Galaxies and of Clusters of Galaxies' (Zwicky and Herzog 1963, 1966; Zwicky and Kowal 1968). 54 ellipticals, 3 peculiar galaxies and 10 spiral galaxies were found. All these objects have been observed at 1415 MHz at Nancay, 42 have been observed at Westerbork and a few at Nancay at 5000 MHz. These observations allow the determination of the radio spectrum and a study of the radio structure. Spectroscopic observations have also been made at McDonald Observatory and Kitt Peak National Observatory providing redshifts for 41 galaxies and as a result the redshifts are known for all the galaxies except 3 spirals. The results of the radio and optical observations are given in the present paper; the interpretation of the data is discussed elsewhere.
