Thermal Oscillations in the High Solar Photosphere
Abstract
Prominent 5-minute oscillations have been detected in the intensity of the fundamental vibrationrotation lines of CO at 4.67 IL. These lines are formed near the temperature minimum in the high photosphere, where the thermal response to density fluctuations is nearly adiabatic. The intensity amplitude corresponds to a temperature oscillation with peak-to-peak amplitude of 225 K.
