The Effect of Resonance-Line Transfer on Hydrogen Ionization
Abstract
Non-LTE calculations have been carried out on a model of a hydrogen atom in the solar chromosphere. In evaluating the assumption of detailed balance in Lyman- , we have found that radiative transfer with a Voigt profile alters the hydrogen ionization equilibrium above a Lyman-continuum optical depth of about 10 .
