Studies in Stellar Evolution. VII. Solar Models
Abstract
The Berkeley stellar-evolution program has been used to compute evolutionary sequences in an at- tempt to establish a solar model. The chemical composition and mixing length were varied to obtain the luminosity and temperature of the Sun for ages ranging from 4.5 to 5.0 X 1O~ years. The models included the cross-section for the Hh(p,e+v)112 reaction, S(O) = 3.78 X 1O~ MeV barns. A comparison of our models with spectroscopic observations suggests that the primordial solar composition lies between X = 0.775, Z = 0.015 and X = 0.730, Z = 0.025. However, the solar-neutrino observations can be explained only with a solar metal content Z <0.02
