New Spectra of the Iron Transition Elements of Astrophysical Interest.
Abstract
A group of intense lines between 170 and 220 A has been observed in the Zeta Discharge, and found to coincide with intense unidentified lines previously observed in the solar spectrum Using high-current and high-voltage sparks, these lines have again been produced and shown to be due to iron Similar groups of lines have been produced and measured from of the elements from calcium to nickel Over 300 new lines are listed in the wavelength range 400-100 A. Two possible mechanisms for the production of these lines are considered.
